Soverato is one of the
more important tourism poles on the Ionian coast and for its beauty is
called "the pearl of the Jonio.
The tourism represents the main economic source for Soverato. During summer
the population increases in number and the town all and the tourism office
organises different events.
The commune of Soverato is in the province of Catanzaro and is situated in
the south part of the Gulf of Squillace.
The town is divided in three different areas : the first urban band is
distributed on the coast, the second widens in hill and the third one, the
tallest part in the city, represents the Old Soverato.
The town benefits of a mild and pleasant climate in every day of the year,
thanks to a whole unique climatic and environmental factors: a clean sea,
sun that shines the whole year and splendid beaches.
Near the beach of St. Nicola have been discovered numerous findings (Roman
coins, containers for oil and cereals) relative to a port installation (Soverato
Marina) going back to the Roman period.
The village next to the sea actually survived up to Dark Ages till the
arrival of the Saracens (X century), which burned and plundered the
territory and the ancient sea village was built above a hill not too far
from the coast.
