At the feet of a rocky
cliff that delimits the hills of the Catalan Forest, Roccella Jonica is a
modern town and with a big receptivity. Provided with a modern theatre,
cinema, amphitheatre, dancing clubs, an equipped seafront, and a tourism
port.
The old town is shaped like a fortified village with an impressive
Angioino Castle , the Carafas, and the medieval tower. On the seafront you
can admire, in proximity of Piazza St. Vittorio, two Egyptian columns ,
belonging to a pagan temple and found again by fishermen on the beach around
1863 in the place Melissari. Today Roccella Ionica is a sea centre with a
modern tourism port ( with around 500 boat places). During the summer there
are many international events, among which the Festival jazz "Rumori
Mediterranei, besides all the village feasts.
