Town among the most
beautiful and famous of the Vibonese, with one of the most picturesque
village of the coast, Pizzo is located on the slope of a suggestive
promontory, that rises above the sea, right in the centre of Sant ’Eufemia
Gulf.
To get to Pizzo take the slip road of Pizzo on the highway A3, or trains and the airport of Lamezia Terme 10 km away. According to the
tradition ,Pizzo was built on the ruins of Napitia, colony founded by the
Focesi, the town also welcomed Cicerone and S. Peter, who stopped here on
his way to Rome. Murat’s castle is declared national monument.
Today Pizzo is a famous tourist station, well-known for the splendid coasts and for the
mildness climate. Endowed with numerous commercial activities with tourist
address, an excellent and famous hand-made ice cream, called tartufo, many
are the restaurant the offer local fish speciality.
The town, rich sea
centre, with a flourishing industry for the maintenance of the tuna, is
famous for the production of the appreciated grape "zibibbo". Among the
artisan activities we signal a shipyard for the construction of boats and
barges with ancient and typical techniques and the artisan activity of the ceramics is still flourishing.
