Crotone City and harbour, main town of province in the western Calabria, is situated on a promontory on the Ionian coast, in the vast hilly region of
the Marchesato. Built by the Achei colonies toward the 710 a.C., the ancient
Króton extended its territory along the coast Calabra, reaching to conquer Sibari and
founding the colonies of Scillezio and Caulonia.
Crotone is the main harbour and the most important industrial centre in Calabria, with numerous electrochemical plants(production of nitrogenous fertilizers, sulphuric acid, ammonia, zinc, cadmium) and food ,wood and
ceramic establishments. The province, that includes 27 communes, is predominantly devoted to the agriculture (cereals, olive trees, vineyards.).
