Cosenza City, main town of province of Calabria, is situated to the west of the Sila, among hilly elevations, in the valley of the river Crati, where this receives the Busento. It was built by the bruzis with the name of Consentia, it was subdued from the Romans in the 204 a.C. and it became a colony during the imperial period. Invaded by the Visigothic of Alarico (who died in Cosenza in 410 and, according to the legend, was buried in the bed of the Busento), it passed under the longobardis and therefore under the Byzantines at the end of the IX century.
