Catanzaro City of
Calabria, main town of province and the region, is situated 10 kms from the coast of the Ionian sea, on a spur among the valleys
of the Fiumarella and the torrent Musňfalo, that goes
down from the first spurs of the Sila Piccola. Built
as a fortified Byzantine village(Katantzárion) toward the end of the X century, it was conquered by the Normans in 1059.
The historical town centre introduces the typical medieval urbanistic plant to
network. In the provincial Museum archaeological, numismatic and pictorial collections are preserved.
Numerous the churches rich in valuable art works. From the De Seta Street you can admire a wonderful panoramic view overlooking the
Squillace Gulf.
